It looks like it’s pedal to the metal on PlayStation Production’s live action TV series based on Twisted Metal.

As Deadline reports, the show has now been picked up for a full series order by NBC streaming service Peacock. As previously announced, it’ll star The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie as John Doe. Tasked with delivering a mysterious package, Doe’s “motor mouthed outsider” milkman will team up with a trigger-happy car thief.

Together, they’ll drive across a post-apocalyptic wasteland avoiding savage marauders driving weaponised vehicles. And of course, they’re led by a deranged clown driving an ice cream truck, who fans will recognise as series mainstay, Sweet Tooth. Thus sets the scene for a high action comedy from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

NBCUniversal Television and Streaming president of scripted content Lisa Katz had the following to say on the series. “This adrenalin-infused comedy series is in expert hands with our partners at Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition to Peacock as we continue to look for uniquely entertaining programs.”

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, had similar praise for the project. “Twisted Metal is one of PlayStation’s most beloved franchises. We are thrilled to have such an amazing creative team and partners working together who have such passion for this iconic property. We can’t wait for fans to see what we have planned for them.”

Recent rumours claimed a Twisted Metal game reboot was in the works to launch alongside the show. However, subsequent reports say it’s now in the hands of Firesprite and may not make the show’s expected 2023 debut.
