Activision has revealed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, the next game in the hit skateboarding series heading to PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year.

Co-developed by Tony Hawk: Ride developer Robomodo and Disruptive Games, Pro Skater 5 is described by Game Informer as offering a “return to the classic gameplay of the series’ heyday”, although there’s also something about power-ups “and the ability to shoot projectiles”.

The first screenshots, however, aren’t particularly encouraging either, revealing dated visuals and relatively low-poly character models. To see them all, you’ll have to head over to Game Informer’s website.

According to a preview in the magazine, meanwhile, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will include 9 levels, including two inspired by classic Tony Hawk levels Warehouse, Hangar and School. “Size-wise it’s going to be pretty big,” said producer Dino Verano, “but we still want to do kind of like a return to form; hearkening back to the old Pro Skater stuff, so it’s not going to feel like an open-world game per se. It’s going to be kind of narrowed down, more focused.”

The PS4 and Xbox One versions are due to release first, with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions “following shortly thereafter”. Expect to hear more on the game – including a potential release date – during Activision’s earnings call later today.
