It’s been a big week for Tomb Raider. Sophie Turner is officially confirmed for the Amazon Prime TV series, releasing a statement promising Lara Croft is in “very safe hands”. Meanwhile, the second season of the Netflix animated series starring Haley Atwell has received a release date set in December. As if all this wasn’t enough, official Tomb Raider social media has teased “we got more coming,” and all we can hope is that they are alluding to either LAU or TR12 rather than yet another crossover.

“We got more coming” teases official Tomb Raider account

On the official Tomb Raider Instagram account, a screenshot of Lara for Netflix Season 2 was shared with the announcement that it is coming out on December 11th. One user commented, “Tomb Raider fans eating good this week,” to which the Tomb Raider account teased, “Don’t get full yet! We got more plates coming”.

Now, there’s no elaboration as to what more is coming for fans of Lara Croft, but the obvious would be a remaster of the Legend, Anniversary and Underworld trilogy or TR12.

Starting with the LAU trilogy, there’s no confirmation of its development, but it would be a no-brainer for Aspyr following on from their remastered trilogies of Tomb Raider 1-3 and 4-6. NateTheHate on X has suggested there will be a Nintendo Direct in “the second week of the month, in the latter half on or around Sept 11th or 12th”.

If we are to get a remaster of the LAU trilogy, it’s possible it could be announced during this Direct as Tomb Raider 4-6 was announced during the October 2024 Nintendo Direct. Either that or an announcement could be saved for October as the series’ anniversary is October 25th, with it turning 29-years old.

As for Tomb Raider 12, that is the next mainline installment currently in-development at Crystal Dynamics using Unreal Engine 5 and published by Amazon Games. It’s possible the first teaser or reveal of the game could happen at this year’s Game Awards on December 11th as, suspiciously, the second season of Tomb Raider Netflix begins the exact same date.

While we look forward to what is coming, we pray that it is not just going to be announcements for more crossovers. Lara Croft has ventured into the worlds of about a million other IPs since Shadow of the Tomb Raider released back in 2018, and they include everything from Call of Duty and Fortnite to Dead By Daylight and Magic The Gathering to even Pinball and World of Tanks this year.

In other Tomb Raider news, Embracer reports say Crystal Dynamics have brought in an “external partner” to aid with development of TR12.
