Ubisoft has revealed Tom Clancy’s XDefiant as a new free-to-play 6V6 FPS featuring characters from a shared Tom Clancy universe.

Following the tease over the weekend, the arena shooter was detailed as it promises a “high octane gameplay experience combining fluid and visceral combat with unprecedented freedom and personalisation.” Matches will see two teams facing off against each other in a variety of game modes, with players able to select their teams from a pool of  Factions inspired by Tom Clancy games “and beyond.”

Four of those factions will be available at launch: the Wolves from Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, the Echelon from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, the Cleaners from Tom Clancy’s The Division and The Outcasts. There’ll be more factions—or Defiants, as they’re known—added over time following the game’s launch. Each faction has their own unique gameplay features and team dynamics. Within those, you’ll then be able to pick your own traits, abilities, ultra ability and loadouts to suit your playstyle.

There’ll be several game modes on offer, including classic competitive offerings like Team Deathmatch or Domination. There’ll also be linear modes such as Escort and a diverse selection of indoor and outdoor arenas to fight in.

There’s no set release date for the game just yet, but players can sign up on the game’s official website for upcoming news on chances to test the game ahead of release. The US and Canada will get the first hands-on with the game with a PC test set for August 5. Further additional, wider-ranging tests are expected later in the year.

Check out a pair of trailers for the game below. Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is “coming soon” to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC and Google Stadia.
