The next gen update will be the latest patch

  • Fallout 4 will be getting a next-gen update, which will be the next patch coming to the game
  • Fallout 76 recently had America’s Playground in March, so we could see a smaller performance related patch in the next month or so, based on prior cadence

Despite being close to a decade old at this point, Fallout 4 is still the latest single player entry in the series, and it looks like it will still be many years until Fallout 5 is on the horizon. So, at least right now, the best option is to bring Fallout 4 into the current generation with improved visuals and performance, and that is what Bethesda is set to do later this week.

Lining up nicely with the release of the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime Video, Fallout 4 is about to receive a new update for next gen platforms and PC, which is sure to bring a lot of attention on the game and generate some new sales. But Fallout 4 isn’t the only game getting some love. The criminally underrated Fallout 76 has also had a few updates recently, and if dev logs are anything to go on, will be set for a few more. Here’s everything we know about when the next patch will be.

When is the next Fallout 4 patch?

The next patch for the game will come in the form of the Fallout 4 next gen update. This is set to go live on April 25th for all platforms, these are PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Players will not need to spend any money on the upgrade, which has been the case with games in the past. Instead, this will just update the game to the latest version which will include all of the improvements and changes.

PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X players will see the most changes, with many graphical and performance improvements made, while the previous gen PS4 and Xbox One players will just see some issues that have been affecting the game finally resolved. Here is everything that is included in the Fallout 4 next gen update for each system, and there’s no word yet as to whether there will be another post-launch patch to accompany the initial update. Given just how much content is coming in the update, another patch does seem likely should players encounter any bugs and glitches.

When is the next Fallout 76 patch?

Fallout 76, meanwhile, has had a number of updates recently. The last major patch, version 1.7.10.12, happened on March 26 so it could be a while before we see another large update. The content, called America’s Playground, brought with it a number of new features, including:

  • A return to Atlantic City to help Mayor Tim against the invasion of Overgrown
  • A new questline in which the player has to unravel a deadly plot involving the Russo Family
  • Allowed further exploration of New Jersey and more side quests
  • Changes to our Seasons system in an attempt to offer the player more flexibility with rewards

There were also a number of bug fixes, which we’ve pulled from the official patch notes below. These included:

  • Fixed preview of snare drum, accordion, and guitar.
  • Fixed graphical issue with Ultracite laser beams when using the Beam Focuser Mod.
  • Fixed an issue with certain Fasnacht masks not properly displaying in the Display Case.
  • Fixed carry and throw previews in Pip-Boy.
  • Tax Evasion: Added caps icon for the Stolen Winnings when viewed in inventory menus.
  • Added new preview when you transform miscellaneous item to ‘Wet Floor Sign.’
  • Improvements to water shaders.

Prior to the America’s Playground update, there was a minor patch addressing some of the issues on February 9th, 2024. So, we could well see another, smaller patch targeting improvements in the next month or so.
