Xbox has announced it’s launching a cheaper version of its Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in the Core edition later this month.

The controller will include all the functionality of the original, including adjustable tension thumbsticks, wrap around rubberized grip and shorter hair trigger locks. Plus, a 40 hour rechargeable battery.

However, it won’t include many of the extra components, such as the extra paddles, additional thumbsticks, additional d-Pad and carry case.

You’ll be able to add these on later, but you’ll have to buy them separately with the Complete Component Pack, which will become available on the same day as the controller.

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core release date and price

The idea, Xbox say, is to offer consumers more choice in buying their premium controller. While the current black offering has an MSRP of $179.99/£159.99, the Core will be priced at $129.99/£114.99 MSRP.

The Complete Component Pack, meanwhile, will cost $59.99/£54.99 MSRP. Both the Core and the Component Pack will go on sale from September 21, 2022.

Furthermore, Xbox has confirmed that it’ll also be adding the Elite Controller Series 2 to Xbox Design Labs this Holiday season. That’ll give players even further options for customisation, allowing for different colours and more.

In the meantime, you can pre order the Core controller, plus the Component pack, from Amazon below.
