Netflix has dropped its first full trailer for upcoming The Witcher prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin.

The teaser was originally shown at the end of The Witcher‘s second season that just released on Netflix last weekend. A few days have passed and now the streaming service has deemed it sharable without fear of spoilers. Lovely.

As a quick refresher, this new live-action prequel is set some 1200 years before the exploits of Geralt of Rivia. Instead, we’ll find out the genesis of the Witchers, and the events that led to the Conjunction of the Spheres.

The spin-off was first announced last summer, originally with Jodie Turner Smith as lead character Eile. She unfortunately had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, and the role is now played by Sophia Brown. Sophia is joined by Laurence O’Fuarain playing as Fjall. Finally, our lead trio is rounded off by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh as sword-elf Scian.

If the trailer’s anything to go by, expect much more combat, amazing scenery and all the Witcher-universe goodness we expect. It’s not the first prequel-story in The Witcher series of course, given earlier this year we found out more about Geralt’s mentor in The Nightmare of the Wolf anime. There’s a second season of that to come, as well as a third season of the main series.

As for The Witcher: Blood Origin, there’s no specific date yet for the premiere, but expect it on Netflix at some point in 2022.
