The new Helldivers 2 Viper Commandos Warbond has now gone live, bringing the Jungle theme to this month’s collection of new weapons, armor, and cosmetics. This is great to see as the previous Polar Patriots had very little to do with the cold, ice, snow, or winter. One of the highlights of the Viper Commandos Warbond is that it has brought vehicle skins and other customizable aspects to the game for the first time.

It is these cosmetics that have set it apart from previous Warbonds, with there being very few weapons and armor sets included, which makes it feel more like a Battle Pass from a game such as Fortnite, and honestly, it isn’t a bad thing. Fortnite Battle Passes are filled with over 100 cosmetics from skins, emotes, weapon wraps, music packs, and many more items, but none of them give players any competitive advantage.
The Steeled Veterans Warbond included three primary weapons, one secondary weapon, one grenade, and three armor sets, whereas the Viper Commandos Warbond features just one primary, one secondary, no grenades, and two armor sets, instead filling the rest with items such as Hellpod, Shuttle, and Exosuit patterns, which are just visual changes. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing and being able to customize more aspects of the game is a much-needed change.
There is a chance that some players will be dissatisfied if more of the items are cosmetic rather than adding new weapons and armor, which has been the standard so far. But, there are only so many ways they can release a new shotgun or assault rifle so it does make sense that we will get more cosmetic items, especially if they fit with the theme of the Warbonds.
It will be interesting to see how the community reacts and whether this is a trend we will continue to see in future Warbonds. But, with the new Viper Commandos Warbond releasing alongside the 01.000.400 update, the first major update in over a month, a lot has changed in a short space of time.
