The First Descendant is the latest looter shooter to hit the market and a great way to get into the genre if you feel you’re too far behind to jump into established titles such as Destiny 2 or Warframe, like me. Despite its early criticisms, The First Descendant is one of the most fun games to be released in 2024 and all signs point to it having a long future ahead of it. Many players are having a blast with it, with it still seeing hundreds of thousands of daily players, and some are already putting a huge amount of hours into it.
U/Difficult-Forever-68 took to The First Descendant sub-Reddit to share an impressive milestone that they have achieved, perhaps one of the first in the world to do so. They have managed to attain 500 hours of playtime on The First Descendant within the first month of its release, at least according to their Steam account.
However, this is unlikely to be accurate as it would mean that the player has played The First Descendant for 18 hours every day in the 29 days the game has been released. The game has likely been left open while they have gone about other aspects of their life. But, they have probably still sunk a few hundred hours into it during that time.
It is great to see that they have managed to rack up a large amount of playtime without spending any money on microtransactions, as the game was criticized early on for its microtransactions. But, this shows that they aren’t as bad as what was initially believed, and not opening your wallet doesn’t hinder your ability to play and enjoy the game. This is similar to Warframe, a similar looter shooter, that is often praised for its monetization practices.
Despite only being one month old, The First Descendant has already seen frequent updates. The 1.05 patch is the latest, which adds two new Descendants including Luna, new equipment, missions, and many other changes and fixes. If you’re new to The First Descendant and want to be the next player to rack up over 500 hours, I highly recommend checking out our guides such as our beginner’s guide and ultimate weapons tier list.
