Call of Duty is always the biggest game of the year and there is lots of excitement for the upcoming retelling of Modern Warfare 3. However, at the same time, there is lots of excitement for The Finals. With its ever-growing popularity, The Finals could possibly be the worst thing to happen to MW3 when it eventually fully releases.

The Finals is a new multiplayer shooter that has been enjoying an open beta for Halloween. This open beta is set to end on November 5th, so make sure to participate while you still can. As for Call of Duty, the MW3 campaign is available to preload on consoles and PC ahead of the official release time for early access to the story.

Both are hugely anticipated. The Finals feels fresh and new, meanwhile, Modern Warfare 3 is simply more Call of Duty. And, when The Finals does come out, it will most definitely clash with Activision’s retelling.

The Finals could be the worst thing to happen to MW3

The Finals could be the worst thing to happen to MW3 whenever it comes out. The game has been pegged to fully launch this year, and the current expectation is for it to be released in December. This isn’t concrete meaning there’s still the likelihood it could debut in 2024 instead, but a potential December launch would clash with the first season of Modern Warfare 3.

The Finals has become the top wishlisted game on Steam following over 250,000 concurrent players in its peak during the ongoing open beta per Steam Charts. Not only that, but the open beta is also on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The game’s popularity simply continues to grow, and its full release will provide stiff competition for Call of Duty MW3. There are already posts on Reddit with people begging for The Finals to come out so they can play it instead of the newest CoD.

Another worrying prospect for MW3 is that The Finals will be free-to-play when it releases. There will most definitely be microtransactions, but people will not have to pay a premium price to play unlike Modern Warfare 3 which costs £69.99 for the Standard edition alone on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Lastly, while there is some jadedness over annual CoD games with MW3 perceived by many as glorified DLC for MW2, The Finals, on the other hand, has been embraced as a unique concept thanks to its gameshow setting.

Aside from The Finals, MW3 will also eventually have to compete with XDefiant when it comes out, too. XDefiant’s popularity has waned since its delay from summer 2023, but it was previously regarded as a potential Call of Duty killer following its successful betas. And, in regard to what’s already out, the redemption of Battlefield 2042 has come at the worst time for Activision.
