It seems a number of developers on the upcoming Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown have gone on strike over budget issues and working conditions just hours before the game is expected to reveal fresh details in an event scheduled for this evening.

According to a press release from the French union group Le Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo, a number of workers at the Kylotonn studio – also known as KT Racing – are on strike following an annual meeting between publisher Nacon and KT Racing attended by Nacon’s chief executive officer Laurent Honoret. There, representatives of the developer are said to have asked for “more resources for Kylotonn and the group’s studios in general”.

According to the press release, Honoret is said to have responded in the negative and claims “He added that it was the studio management’s prerogative to negotiate more budget with Nacon” which seems to be the opposite of what Kylotonn’s management have told them – with them placing the blame on Nacon themselves and as a result putting the developer and its publisher at loggerheads with each other.

As a result of this, the striking workers’ demands include negotiating a safe remote work policy, negotiation of minimum wages, as well as “Immediate implementation by management of concrete measures to put an end to the pathogenic and authoritarian management style that threatens workers’ mental health and cohesion.” Furthermore, the worker’s demands also include full transparency on negotiations, and on ‘working conditions adjustment processes’.

At the time of writing, Nacon are yet to respond to these demands, or indeed if this action will affect this evening’s intended event. However, we have reached out to Nacon for a comment and will be sure to update this piece should they respond. It was announced last week that a Test Drive Unlimited Connect event is set to take place across Nacon’s YouTube channel, which is set to show fresh gameplay from the open world racer this evening, Wednesday July 12 at 6pm BST (7pm CEST) .

First announced back in 2021, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be set in Hong Kong and is set to mark the long-awaited return of the Test Drive Unlimited series, with the open world racer’s last entry being all the way back in 2011. While it doesn’t have a specific release date yet, the game itself is currently pencilled in for a 2023 release.
