Telltale Games has used an engine of their own creation known as The Telltale Tool since shortly after its founding in 2004, and though it's been updated several times over the years, it's definitely showing its age. So it may come as welcome news that the studio is set to move away from the engine after the conclusion of the upcoming The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

As spotted by Eurogamer, entertainment site Variety reports that the studio is set to finally move away from the 14 year-old engine that has powered nearly all of its adventure titles including Minecraft Story Mode, The Wolf Among Us, Batman: The Telltale Series and The Walking Dead.

The studio is said to be moving to the Unity engine, which will begin with the Stranger Things project, and presumably the recently delayed The Wolf Among Us 2.  The news comes not long after the revelation that the company is being sued by its former boss.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season is set to release the first episode in August.
