Sega has confirmed that Sonic and Tails will be appearing as unlockable characters in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania at launch.

Sonic and Tails join the previously announced addition of Beat from Jet Set Radio. Like him, both the Blue Blur and the Two-tailed fox will be free and unlockable through normal gameplay at launch. All three will be available regardless of which platform you pick the game up on.

In case you’re not up to speed, Banana Mania will include over 300 stages with many updated from the first three Super Monkey Ball games from 2001. Incidentally, while this game celebrates SMB’s 20th anniversary, it’s also Sonic’s own 30th birthday. So, there’s a nice bit of the old synergy there. It’s far from Sonic’s first appearance in the series either. He showed up in previous entry Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD back in 2019.

You can check out a trailer for Sonic and Tails’ inclusion in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania below. The game launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 5.

Speaking of Sonic, it’s recently been revealed that Idris Elba will be providing the voice of Knuckles in the Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie sequel.
