The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel appears to have found its Knuckles in Idris Elba following a tweet from the actor.
The Suicide Squad star revealed he’d be lending his voice to the character by tweeting an image of the famous Echidna’s knuckles. Not long after, his casting was later confirmed by a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
Knuckles’ inclusion in the sequel first came to light after a stand-in for the character was spotted on the set of the movie back in April. Elba joins Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik alongside James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. Tails is also set to feature in the sequel, though his own voice actor is yet to be confirmed.
Back in 2020, the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie proved very successful. It quickly knocked off Detective Pikachu to become the highest grossing video-game movie ever in the United States. The news also comes in the midst of Sonic’s 30th anniversary with a remaster of Sonic Colours Ultimate on the way in September and an all-new Sonic game in 2022.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 live action movie with Idris Elba as Knuckles, meanwhile, is currently scheduled to land in cinemas on April 8, 2022.
