Super Mario 3D Land has shifted an impressive 343,492 copies in its first week on sale, according to figures released by Media Create.
3DS software has been struggling in Japan, despite the hardware being the top selling system for the last five months. Hardware too has benefited, with a massive 145,271 units sold, up from 65,041 the previous week.
Behind Mario in the chart are the western blockbusters Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3, selling 124,989 and 123,379 on PS3 respectively. Uncharted in particular appears to have benefited from a big marketing push, which included Harrison Ford – the second game managed only 54,000 units in its first week back in 2009.
Super Mario 3D Land launches in the UK on November 18. Look out for our review tomorrow.
