Capcom has unveiled some of its plans for the first year of DLC content for upcoming beat-em-up Street Fighter 6 as part of a showcase that took place last night.

Four characters will be added to the game’s roster of fighters over the course of the first year following Street Fighter 6’s June launch, starting off with Rashid who makes their return since debuting in the previous game. He’ll be followed by A.K.I. – who’ll be a brand new character for this entry. Not much has been revealed of them at this stage, but they appear to be linked to poison aficionado, SF5’s Fang.

Another Street Fighter 5 character is next, with Ed scheduled to arrive in Winter 2023. Then, probably the biggest name of this first year in fan favourite villain Akuma finally arrives to round off Year 1’s roster in Spring 2024. All four of these characters will be incorporated into the game’s new World Tour mode, where you’ll get to “learn their special moves and increase your bond” with them.

Speaking of World Tour mode, last night’s showcase also gave us a deeper dive into the new single player story mode featured in the new instalment. Rather than taking on one of the series’ famous characters you’ll instead create your own custom avatar, and investigate a mystery that’ll see you interact with each legendary fighter. You’ll get to ‘enrol’ in their styles, learn their moves and use them to complete some pretty interesting looking missions – including fighting refrigerators(?) – check it out below.

You’ll increase your bonds with these characters, unlocking new cutscenes and level up your avatar. We’re also promised “in-depth RPG elements” that’ll see you consuming items and food for buffs and debuffs, and even earning skill points on a dedicated skill tree – so this could be the most in-depth single player Street Fighter experience yet. You’ll also be able to take your custom avatar from World Tour into the Battle Hub to take part in custom avatar battles against other players online.

The Street Fighter 6 release date is set for June 2, 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. A Street Fighter 6 demo is also available right now on PlayStation, and will made available to Xbox Series X|S and PC next week.
