Capcom continues its stellar year with the release of Street Fighter 6, but the reported inclusion of a battle pass has disappointed some fans. Although the developers are yet to provide specific details on its contents, it’s safe to assume that it will include much of the same items as other in-game battle passes.

As usual, the premium track will most likely contain unique costumes for the entire Street Fighter 6 character list, World Tour avatar gear, and in-game currency among others. Of course, this purchase is entirely optional since it won’t actually affect your match performance, but if you plan on playing SF6 for a long time, then you’ll undoubtedly be tempted to whip out your wallet at some point in the future.

With this in mind, Capcom’s decision to shift Street Fighter 6 into somewhat of a live service title isn’t all that surprising seeing as how a few of their other upcoming games, like Exoprimal, are going the same route. However, some players aren’t taking this transition well as some were predictably disappointed upon learning of this notorious in-game microtransaction.

A concerned user named Madsbjoern recently created a Reddit post revealing the inclusion of a battle pass in SF6. One commenter said that “waiting until reviews and initial sales, then announcing a battle pass is not a good sign. They know it wouldn’t go over well.” Another responder then noted that “the scummiest thing is how much they’ve tried to hide it,” as some media members seemingly weren’t allowed to or didn’t talk about it.

It remains to be seen whether the battle pass will be harmful in the long run as the game is yet to be launched. But with the Street Fighter 6 release date closer than ever, we will soon find out if the community’s concerns are either valid worries or unfounded complaints.
