PlayStation is massively beloved thanks to its excellent library of IPs. The PS5 has had some great console exclusives, with more on the way such as Death Stranding 2, but a lot of fans would argue its greatest lineup of exclusives came during the stints of the PS3 and PS4. This was when there was a different person in charge as president of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Many of the PlayStation community adore former SIE president, Shuhei Yoshida, and the creator of Stellar Blade has praised the PlayStation icon for discovering the game and giving birth to the “heyday of console games”.
Stellar Blade creator praises PlayStation icon Shuhei Yoshida
Shuhei Yoshida was recently part of a joint media interview with Kim Hyung-Tae, the director of Stellar Blade and CEO of SHIFT UP, as well as Yoo Hyun-Suk, director of Nikke Goddess of Victory, which is a gacha game underneath the umbrella of SHIFT UP.
During the interview, Kim was asked about their impressions of Mr. Yoshida and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The interview is transcribed by Japanese outlet, 4gamer, and there may be some inaccuracies due to Google translate.
Kim reportedly said that Mr. Yoshida “discovered Stellar Blade” and also “supported the collaboration” with Sony Interactive Entertainment to get it published by PlayStation. Kim thanked Yoshida, and hailed him as the “creator of the heyday of console games, from the birth of the PlayStation brand to the PS4”. The Stellar Blade director pointed to “Especially the PS3 and PS4 eras,” where Yoshida “supported the game industry with titles such as Uncharted and God of War”.
Asked about his impressions of SHIFT UP, Yoshida reportedly said he first heard about the studio in 2019 and “was shown a prototype of the Stellar Blade”. Yoshida thought the prototype “was amazing,” and he believes the game’s post-launch success is due to many factors including “modelling of the characters, the technical skills, and the beauty of the graphics”. Yoshida also highlighted the simple yet intense combat, as well as SHIFT UP succeeding from a relationship with “SIE producers and marketers”.
Lastly, Yoshida said that “Stellar Blade is my personal favorite type of game because it is a difficult third-person game”.
The affection the PlayStation community have for Yoshida is well-deserved, and it’s always nice to see it echoed by developers that were supported by the former SIE president. Although Yoshida is no longer president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, he still has a voice within the gaming industry that carries a lot of weight, and he’s just recently teased that an upcoming PS Plus day-one release is his “favorite game” from SGF.
In other gaming news, the main actress of Silent Hill F has claimed the game is so traumatising she felt her “own sanity slipping” while recording her role.
