While Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will offer some exhilarating scares next year, Konami’s Silent Hill F appears dead set on leaving its players with a whole bunch of trauma to unpack this September.

Silent Hill F is extremely terrifying

Following Bloober Team’s phenomenal remake of Silent Hill 2, NeoBards Entertainment’s upcoming Silent Hill F is a much different experience. Instead of small-town America, we’re now in 1960s Japan; instead of playing as James Sunderland, you’re playing as Japanese high school girl Hinako Shimizu.

Kato Konatsu, the actress playing Shimizu in the horror game, explained that players aren’t the only ones who will have their minds broken by the title. In fact, while playing the character over the past few years of development, the actress felt her own mind shattering.

“I’ve been living as Hinako in the world of Silent Hill for a long time now,” the actress said in a statement on social media (thank, Automaton). “On some days, I almost felt my own sanity slipping, but it was worth it to be able to contribute to this game.”

Written by Ryukishi07, the creator of the When They Cry series, Silent Hill F focuses on a lot of different themes which require trigger warnings. Konami has warned players that the story will include “gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence”.

According to the game’s ESRB rating, there’s a lot of graphic content in the horror game as well with the game including characters “getting impaled in the neck and/or getting their faces ripped apart… burned alive inside a cage… branded by a hot iron; entrails and sinew displayed on serving platters in fantastical celebration… character sawing off her own arm” and more. It sounds pretty damn gnarly.

With Silent Hill 2 becoming the highest-selling entry in the series ever, the horror franchise is in a great place. Alongside the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami is also returning to the games industry in great form.
