PS Plus subscribers have some great games to anticipate. The PS Plus June 2025 Extra and Premium games will be fully revealed soon, and we already know Extra subscribers will be treated to the day-one release of FBC Firebreak on June 17th. There’s another day-one release for subscribers to anticipate soon, and former Sony Interactive Entertainment president, Shuhei Yoshida, has said it is their “favorite game” of Summer Game Fest.
Former PlayStation President hails upcoming PS Plus day-one release
Shuhei Yoshida was President of Sony Interactive Entertainment from 2008 to 2019, and he naturally has a lot of love and affection from PlayStation fans around the globe. He’s always passionate about the world of video games, and his opinion carries a lot of weight.
Previously, Shuhei Yoshida teased PS Plus day-one release, Blue Prince, would be a GOTY contender, and he was certainly right about its quality as it’s currently the second highest rated game of the year on Metacritic so far with a 92. It sits only behind the magnificent Clair Obscur Expedition 33 at 93.
Now Shuhei Yoshida has hailed another game that will be coming to PS Plus Extra on day one of its release. The former Sony Interactive Entertainment president has been part of Summer Game Fest 2025 Play Days, and he has revealed on X that Sword of the Sea is his “favorite game”.
Sword of the Sea is coming to PS Plus Extra on August 19th, as per the PlayStation Blog. It’s from developer Giant Squid, who are renowned for the breathtaking spiritual experiences of Abzu and The Pathless. Sword of the Sea will be similar to Abzu and The Pathless, and it involves players roaming gorgeous sceneries comprising of deserts and waves to restore a lost ocean.
We obviously can’t attest to the game’s quality right now, but Shuhei Yoshida’s praise means a lot, and it has us very excited. Between now and August 19th, don’t forget that Deus Ex PS2 is coming to PS Plus Premium on June 17th as well, and Twisted Metal 3 and 4 will be added to Premium in July. There’s also going to be the addition of Resident Evil 2 and 3 from the PS1 “later in the summer,” which presumably means August.
