Everyone loves a good scare, right? Bethesda is certainly no stranger to adding spooky-themed DLC after a game’s release. Whether it’s Fallout 4’s Far Harbor DLC or The Elder Scrolls 3’s Bloodmoon expansion, having a sense of horror invade an otherwise not-scary game can provide a nice shake-up to any RPG’s gameplay loop.

Despite the Starfield release date still being two months away, fans are already hoping a similarly spooky experience will be available at launch or via DLC. One user on Reddit was particularly confident Bethesda would have at least something horror-inducing in Starfield. They said, “I feel confident there will be at least one. Maybe we don’t get to see the underbelly of how the one creature was created, so we visit the origin planet and discover the story. Or some sick and twisted cannibalistic planet.. just because I feel like I’ve seen a lot of that in Bethesda games.”

Every possible space-horror nightmare was discussed among the fanbase, with people arguing Starfield should get a DLC that harkens back to Alien’s face huggers or Lovecraft. Another player added, “They’ve always added Lovecraft references/areas/quests into their games so I’m pretty excited to see what they can do with cosmic horror and eldritch monstrosities on some far-off desolate planets.”

Just think about the possibilities, there are so many horrifying approaches Bethesda could take storytelling-wise in Starfield. Whether you wanted to go down the monster/alien approach or even something akin to 2001: A Space Oddessy there’s so much potential for Bethesda to work with. We’ll be crossing our fingers alongside Starfield fans in the hope that at some point we’ll get to see what the nightmarish galaxy is like in Starfield when it releases on September 6, 2023.
