Starfield continues its meteoric rise to the top of wishlists everywhere and its increasing popularity is partly due to the fact that there are an endless amount of possibilities for each player when it comes to what they could do in the game’s wide open world.

Even though we’re still a couple of months away from the Starfield release date, fans are already beginning to plan out their initial escapades once they get into the game and one of the schemes they’ve come up with is the recreation of the Matt Damon-led, outer space-based movie, The Martian. For those unfamiliar, The Martian is a science fiction film that revolves around the life of an astronaut named Mark Watney who gets stranded on Mars after a major mishap occurs with his spacecraft.

In order to endure the barren wastelands of the red planet, Watney decides to set up a small garden within his living space, which he subsequently uses to plant everyone’s favorite tuberous plant: the potato. Naturally, these potatoes – along with some leftover ketchup – became his main form of sustenance that helped him survive this harrowing experience. Of course, this motivational interplanetary tale has inevitably inspired other people to do the same, albeit in a safer video game environment.

According to one comment under a particular Reddit post, a user named Rbar124 noted that they’d “be surprised if there wasn’t a Mark Watney easter egg somewhere on Mars.” Further down the thread, another responder noted that the idea to recreate The Martian wasn’t initially on their list, “but now, oh boy is it now!”

Unfortunately, with the Starfield launch date still a ways off, you will have to remain patient for a while before you can relive The Martian in your own way. So while you wait, we suggest taking a look at our guides on the Ryujin Industries faction and the Constellation faction for now so you know what kind of NPC’s to expect once you start landing on different in-game planets.
