With Bethesda revealing the Starfield Constellation Collector’s Edition at the Starfield Direct it didn’t take long for scalpers to start snatching up pre-orders to sell them for nearly two times the price. Players have taken notice and are now urging others not to purchase or engage with the Starfield scalpers.
The Collectors Edition, which was originally announced to retail at $299, was a huge talking point after the Starfield Direct and Xbox Games Showcase. The Starfield Reddit has been rife with players posting about scalpers taking to eBay in an attempt to sell pre-ordered versions of the Starfield Constellation Collector’s Edition for sometimes nearly $700. User eeedg3ydaddies said on Reddit, “Can I complain about how annoyed I am scalpers bought out the Constellation editions everywhere and are now selling them for $400-$700?”
Many fans including seakingsoyuz are urging players to report the scalpers for breaking eBay’s terms of service saying, “Report all of them for breaking eBay TOS. eBay doesn’t allow selling presale items more than thirty days ahead of when they’ll ship. The game won’t be out for more than twice that long so these sellers are inherently breaking TOS.” As pictured below both the PC and Xbox versions of the Collector’s Edition are currently going for anywhere from $450 all the way to $700 with some bundles containing the recently released Starfield headset, controller and yet-to-be-released Collector’s Edition asking for almost $1,000.
On another post players rallied together to report scalpers for breaking eBay’s terms of service with one user posting, “I can totally get behind this, I despise scalpers. So I picked the highest-priced Constellation Edition ($850) and reported that one for breaking Pre-Sale policy. Many people reporting one is likely better than individual vigilante mass reporting.” However, the original did warn to report with caution as “too many reports in a short span could jeopardize your [eBay] account.”
In more lighthearted news Starfield players hope some old Fallout New Vegas friends make a return. Alongside this, either Starfield salami prices are astronomical, or ships are dirt cheap. The Starfield release date is set for September 6, 2023 – although the game’s aforementioned collector’s editions will also let you play five days earlier.
