Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a brilliant, albeit flawed, open-world survival game. While developer GSC Game World is working on an upcoming roadmap of improvements as well as upcoming expansions, the Ukrainian developer is also still making major tweaks to the base experience.
In an upcoming update, GSC will be changing the location of late game upgrades in the survival game in lieu of any New Game Plus features. While great for normal players and replays, it does seem like New Game Plus won’t be coming anytime soon.
Stalker 2 upgrades won’t be locked to endgame
In response to fan requests for New Game Plus in the game’s official Discord server, developer GSC Game World instead revealed plans to make the feature obsolete. Right now, there are key upgrades for your character locked behind the Point of No Return.
Since this point is a linear route directly towards the game’s ending, and you can’t explore the open world afterwards, these upgrades are essentially ending only content for now. However, this will soon change.
In their response, GSC confirmed that these upgrades and weapon attachments will be moved into the open world’s stashes to make them more usable.
“In the next patch we are moving several attachments and upgrades from “point of no return” end game sequence to Prypiat stashes,” the developer said, all while avoiding any mention of a New Game Plus feature.
Of course, New Game Plus could eventually arrive to the game at some point in the future, but that doesn’t appear to be the plan. Stalker 2 is a game with multiple endings that GSC wants you to earn, and rocking back into the zone with a bag filled with high-end weapons and countless upgrades is pretty much the exact opposite of the intended experience.
