After the Splitgate developers announced that they were abandoning the game it seemed like that was it for one of the most unique and fun FPS games that we’ve seen in many years. Thankfully, the team was working on a sequel and aims to bring the Halo meets Portal game back stronger than ever with Splitgate 2. Since Splitgate 2 was announced last month, the developers have remained quiet. That was until today when they unexpectedly released a first-look trailer showcasing gameplay and what we can expect from the game.

In the trailer, we get a look at the three factions that will be in Splitgate 2, Aeroes, Meridian, and Sabrask, along with the abilities that can be used with each one. Aeros are fast, agile, and portal masters, with pro player IitzTimmy explaining the benefits of using this faction by saying “Aeros is just high APM, fast movement, you’ve got to run around, you’re portaling behind people, shooting them, killing them, go back to your portal, reset, pop a stem.” MacieJay also noted that the faction is “mainly the entry fragging role, geared towards the mechanically skilled players.”

Meridian is a support faction, suited for healers and spotters. Aspen spoke about this faction saying that there are “abilities that can help you survive and help your teammates survive. You can support them and keep them up but also get kills at the same time.” Diving into the abilities and how they work, she said that she “would use hyper sights to see when people are flanking, and it detects players behind walls.” King George stated that he thinks that “the time dome is one of the best gadgets in the game,” going on to say that “it’s really useful anytime you’re in a gunfight with anybody,” he said. “You could use it for yourself by just throwing it on the ground and standing in it and being able to shoot faster, reload faster, you move, faster.” But, if the enemy steps inside it then it will have the opposite effect and slow them down.

Finally is the Sabrask, suited for defenders and fraggers. Scump spoke about this defense faction saying “I feel like Sabrask is the faction that you can get away with not using the portals.” Enable gave his thoughts on Sabrask saying “Not as many movement perks when compared to the other two factions, but with all of the abilities and the guns, you have a lot of versatility.” He then detailed the smart wall, which looks to be a potential game-changer in modes that see teams hold points and areas on the map. “You have the smart wall, which is basically a pop-up shield that blocks enemy bullets depending on where you place it, but you can shoot through it. If you place it down and you’re getting shot in the back, you can then go to the opposite side of the smart wall. If you can get to power position on the map, the smart wall is a necessity.”

The Splitgate 2 developers will be hosting a live stream on August 14th at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET where they will be jumping into games and showing off everything that will be included in the game.
