Jagex and Flying Wild Hog have announced free-to-play shooter Space Punks will leave early access & enter open beta next month.

The top-down ARPG is the latest offering from the Cracow arm of the Shadow Warrior developers. Set in an “irreverent sci-fi universe”, you play a member of a band of intergalactic pirates looking to make their fortune. Players will be looting and shooting across the universe either solo or as a foursome.

The four characters you’ll be going up against the hordes of alien baddies include Duke, Eris, Finn and Bob. Naturally there’s an absolute truckload of weapons you’ll get to use, which you’ll get to upgrade. You’ll do this by successfully completing missions, and using your ill-gotten gains to purchase more and better weapons & equipment.

With the game’s move into an open beta, comes a brand new update too. ‘The Cracked One’ promises core gameplay loop improvements, including to the Crafton 2000 system. In addition, there’s also a new ‘Get-A-Job’ mechanic too. Elsewhere, players can also look forward to new endgame content in the form of ‘The Crack’.

Though the game will be moving into free-to-play, there will naturally be a Founder’s Pack you can purchase for real money. They include a Swag Pack which unlocks all four main characters, and a Season 1 Battle Pass set to launch later in the game’s Open Beta. Meanwhile, the Splendor Pack includes that plus 25 tier skips, four Epic Character skins, Epic Player Entrances and more.
