Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is already the best-selling 40K game of all time and has increased physical Warhammer store sales, bolstered sales of other 40K games, and has a sequel in the works.
While Saber is still supporting the game with more official content in the form of Operations, new weapons, PvP maps and more, the studio announced plans to release the game’s internal tools to modders to keep the game alive forever with the wildest mods they can think of. After a little wait, those mod tools are finally here.
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 Mod Kit released
Weirdly unceremoniously released onto Nexus Mods, Saber Interactive has unlocked the keys to Space Marine 2 with the launch of the official ModKit for its popular third-person co-op game. Available now in its Rev 2 from, which benefits from minor bug fixes, existing and new modders can now create, well, anything.
“The Space Marine 2 Mod Editor lets you customize the game by editing characters, properties, and behaviors directly in the game files. Adjust gameplay elements or experiment with different configurations using the same tools our developers use — no coding experience needed,” Saber says on the mod’s download page.
Alongside the included Integration Studio app that makes up the ModKit, Saber has also included a handy PDF file that includes key steps for making and sharing mods for Space Marine 2.
Of course, a ModKit wasn’t necessarily needed for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Even before the tool’s release, players were somehow making 12-player multiplayer co-op modes and adding new enemies, weapons and customization pieces into the game. One player even added Duke Nukem for gits and shiggles.
However, the arrival of the game’s massive ModKit means that a lot more is actually possible within the Warhammer game. With players already working to bring entirely new factions of enemies into the co-op title, there’s going to be a tonne of exciting mods coming for Saber’s already content-rich action game.
For official content, Saber is working on a massive update scheduled for the game’s first anniversary later this year, and Space Marine 3 is already in the works to create a bigger-and-better experience whenever it finally releases.
