Sony Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog has told fans to “hold tight” for more God of War: Ragnarok news in a new video message.
The studio tweeted out the video to mark four years since the original game, 2018’s God of War, released. Barlog thanked fans for all their love and support over the years, but of course had to address the sequel elephant in the room. “We haven’t said a lot about this, that’s because everybody is heads down, hard at work. We are perfectionists. There is so much going on right now that I just wish that we could share it with you. But it’s just not ready to be shown.”
But I guarantee you the moment, the very second that we have something that we’re ready to share, we’re going to share it with you”. He continued “Because we don’t want to hold any of this back. So please hold tight, know that something cool is coming, and that we, everybody here at Santa Monica, is so incredibly thankful for all the support that you’ve given us.”
The last major look we got at God of War: Ragnarok came back in September of 2021. During a PlayStation Showcase event, the game was given a vague 2022 release window. We’re now four months in, and alas we’ve not had that date narrowed down any further yet. Back in January, the 2018 adventure did come to PC and rapidly became the most successful PlayStation-to-PC port so far.
Hopefully, we’ll get that release date nailed down this summer. While we await further news, God of War: Ragnarok is currently pencilled in for 2022 on PlayStation 5 & PlayStation 4.
4 years ago, God of War (2018) released! We’re grateful to all of you who joined Kratos and Atreus on their journey, and we’re so proud of the team who worked to bring it to life.
While we’re not ready to share an update about what comes next, here’s a quick message from Cory! pic.twitter.com/Z5PHpKQppY
