Sega has confirmed that Sonic Origins, a new collection of four classic Sonic the Hedgehog games, will arrive this June.

The compendium was first announced during last May’s Sonic 30th Anniversary celebrations. However, we’ve now got the full details on what to expect in the package, with the collection even boasting new features. Specifically, the pack will include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Each title will of course get a full high-resolution graphical going over to make sure they’re suitable for modern displays. But there’ll also be some brand opening and closing animations for each title. There’ll also be some new areas to explore too. Each game will also be playable in both a ‘Classic’ and an ‘Anniversary’ mode.

Classic Mode will play as you remember the 90’s platformers, with limited lives and original 4:3 resolution. Anniversary mode, meanwhile, will let you play the games with infinite lives and the collection’s new “revamped fullscreen resolution”. There’ll also be a special Museum complete with new content, challenges and Special Stages to unlock by collecting coins.

You can check out a trailer for the collection down below. Sonic Origins arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on June 23, 2022.
