Sega has announced that Sonic Mania is getting a physical release on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch complete with a bunch of additional content, including two new playable characters.

Sonic Mania Plus will see Mighty and Ray join the lineup alongside Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and will be joined by the all-new Encore Mode and an expanded competition offering that now accommodates four-players going head-to-head.

The physical re-release of last year’s retro-tastic platformer will be speeding into stores in summer 2018, although an exact release date has yet to be announced. In addition to the above in-game content, it’ll also ship with a holographic cover, 32-page art book, plus a reversible Sega Genesis (Mega Drive for us Brits) cover.

Sonic Mania was released in August last year and attracted widespread acclaim for bringing the blue blur back to his 16-bit glory days. Despite wallowing in nostalgia just a little bit too much, Colm was still impressed with Sonic Mania and reckons it’s definitely worth a punt.
