Sega’s offered up a little more insight into the upcoming Sonic Frontiers, including revealing the new ‘Cyber Space’ zone.

Sonic’s journey on his new adventure will see him head to the Starfall Islands in search of Chaos Emeralds. However, once he Amy and Tails get arrive, they end up in a mysterious portal. This portal separates the trio and Sonic wakes up in a strange digital world called Cyber Space. He’ll be bouncing back and forth between the Starfall Islands and Cyber Space during his adventure.

To gain access to the portals that let him travel there, Sonic will need Portal Gears. To get these, he’ll have to solve puzzles and challenges in the open world. It seems Cyber Space will be home to the more traditional, speed-running action platforming sequences we’ve come to know and love. There’ll be additional challenges to complete in Sonic Frontiers Cyber Space, and you’ll need to do so to earn Vault Keys for back in the open world.

That’s not the only new feature we’ve been shown, as Sonic will have access to some new abilities too. One of the major ones will be Cyloop – which allows the Blue Blur to create a beam of light that mirrors Sonic’s tracks. You’ll then be able to use this to surround enemies, items and more with various effects and to unlock secrets.

Finally for now, Sonic Frontiers will also includes two control styles you can pick between at the start. Action Style will be useful for accurate platforming and precision, while High Speed Style will feel more like a traditional Sonic game. You can pick which works better for you. Check out some of this in the trailer below.

Sonic Frontiers arrives this Holiday on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch & PC.
