SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo will be the first game in the series to appear on the PSP when it hits retail on November 8th 2005 (in the US at least). No European release date has been announced, but we’d assume that we’ll see the game before Christmas.

The game takes place in 14 international locations and will feature Wi-Fi multiplayer support, PS2 USB link up to SOCOM III and an instant action mode that will allow players to enjoy the game in short bursts.

Richard Foge, a designer working on the game commented on its development in a Blog entry.

Instant Action mode is a new feature for the SOCOM franchise,” said Foge. “What we were really trying to get was something that catered specifically to the short bursts of gaming action that we expect from people playing their PSP on a bus on their way to work, or lunch breaks at school.”

I’m very happy that the PSP rolled out. The scope of the games can still be pretty wide, but the game chunks themselves need to be a bit easier to digest. It’s also really nice to see the handheld market growing up a little bit, both in terms of hardware quality / functionality and content,” Foge continued. “Wireless multiplayer is awesome, both in ad-hoc and infrastructure. I love multi-player games and I think it’s going to be great to go down to a coffee shop with a wireless connection and log into FTB so that I can jump into some multi-player gameplay and kick some ass with some SOCOM fans.”

We’ll bring you news on the European release date as soon as anything official is said by SCEE. For more from Richard Foge and other SOCOM info, head over to the SOCOM Blog.
