Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Requiem at Summer Games Fest 2025. Following a cute-but-annoying tease earlier in the show, the company officially revealed the next title in the now 30-year-old horror series at the annual gaming celebration.

Confirmed alongside announcements like Atomic Heart 2, Mortal Shell 2 and more, Capcom revealed the latest entry in its iconic franchise at the end of the online gaming show. Following prior teases from the studio earlier this year, we finally have our first look at the next entry in this iconic franchise.

Resident Evil Requiem is Resident Evil 9

Put in the shoes of new protagonist Grace, the latest game in Capcom’s horror franchise offers a largely different expeirence than what players may be used to. Releasing on February 27, 2028, Resident Evil Requiem is a brand-new “bold shift in tone and gameplay” with high-stakes cinematic action.

Not much is known about the upcoming horror game at the time of writing. However, as the title is officially the ninth mainline entry in the long-running franchise, it will take place after the events of the phenomenal Resident Evil Village.

Players will control new protagonist Claire in what appears to be a return to a version of Raccoon City decimated by the nuclear bomb that was dropped at the end of the second game. With new unexplained deaths occuring and weird symptoms surrounding the mysterious victims, is Umbrella up to its usual shennigans again?

Few details were shared about the upcoming horror game, although it has been in development for a number of years. As a celebration of 30 years of Resi titles, the game is described as an action-packed entry in the series. Hopefully, it won’t be as “action-packed” as RE6 was.

There has been no information regarding returning characters from the Resident Evil franchise. However, recent leaks claim that RE2 and RE4 protagonist Leon S. Kennedy will have some role in the game. It’s not known if this role is simply a cameo, similar to Chris Redfield’s appearance at the end of Resi 7.
