A 2022 interview conducted by VentureBeat has reignited the ongoing debate between keyboard & mouse players against controller users in MW2. The conflict between loyalists of each peripheral type stems from the presence of heavy aim assist on controllers. Those playing on PC, however, got the short end of the stick as they have to rely purely on hand-eye coordination alone.

Although the ever-present argument had died down in recent months, a few previous statements from the developers has seemingly brought it back to life. During the aforementioned interview, Infinity Ward was asked if they thought that “next-gen consoles and PC would have an advantage based on resolution and draw distance.”

After mentioning that there wouldn’t be an advantage, they go on to say that their group “goes to great lengths to make sure that fairness, player to player, exists across that generation of machines.” They then end their comments by stating the following: “You can see that a very highly skilled player on mouse and keyboard is fantastic compared to controller. Everybody else on a mouse and keyboard seems to be at a disadvantage statistically, is what we see.”

With the interview and these statements having already been posted on the MW2 Reddit, the community can’t help but chime in on what’s been mentioned so far. Some players are calling for the addition of in-game matchmaking based on input devices. If this were to be implemented, it would pit those with the same input devices against one another thereby eliminating the aim assist advantage in the game.

Some, however, are opposed to the idea since it would essentially eliminate cross-play from MW2. With that said, many are apparently in agreement that the significant aim assist does indeed play a significant role within the game’s ecosystem. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Infinity Ward is going to provide a solution for this any time soon as this prevalent issue remains unaddressed to this day.
