Capcom has revealed during an interview with Famitsu magazine (via Reddit) that Resident Evil 2 will accommodate knife-only runs.

If you're not a big Resi fan, knife runs are popular among players who fancy seeking out a greater challenge. And considering the knife a bit of a crap weapon, there's probably not greater test of skill available.

The upcoming survival horror revamp will also allow for speed runs, another popular pasttime among Resi fans.

Interestingly, Resi 2 will feature more 'realistic' puzzles in the sense they will be better integrated into the game world. We're also promised ample replay value, although whether this means multiple endings or not isn't clarified.

Speaking of replay value, the team hinted at the inclusion of something — a new game mode or specific mechanic, we're not sure yet — that is being added alongside the existing Hunk and Tofu game modes.

'Other than the already revealed "The 4th Survivor" and "The To-Fu Survivor," there is something I can't talk about, but if I say it anyway, it's something we made that can make subsequent playthroughs fun,' said Hirabayashi-san.

What could this be? An item randomiser? Ada Wong campaign? Extreme Battle Mode? Fingers crossed.

Capcom recently discussed its reasons for swapping the fix cameras of the original Resi 2 with an over-the-shoulder perspective. It also gave hope that a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake may happen at some point down the line.

Resident Evil 2 is due out on January 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
