Red Dead Redemption 2 will come to Steam on December 5, as announced by Rockstar Games.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that there would be “no downside” to a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port, and theoretically, he was correct. I modded it so it would look like Death Stranding, Tomb Raider, and Zoo Tycoon, and that was a good time. What Rockstar Games didn’t predict was the deluge of technical issues with the PC port. The Rockstar Games Launcher had been revealed for its previously released PC portfolio, including a giveaway of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Nevertheless, the launcher was causing a huge headache for excitable PC players, triggering the “Red Dead Redemption 2 exited unexpectedly” error straight out of the gate. The developer made a troubleshooting guide for those unfortunate souls, and the PCRedDead subreddit was flooded with possible solutions to the problems. Citing “unforeseen” conflicts with graphics drivers, Rockstar Games called on Nvidia to help in a collaborative update. “We want everyone to be able to experience Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC as we intended as soon as possible,” it apologised for the hiccups and explained its plans for the game.

Now that Red Dead Redemption 2’s Steam launch date is out in the wild, gamers are still worried that the Rockstar Games Launcher will mix like oil and water with Valve’s software. Ubisoft titles on Steam need to be authorised through Uplay, and it may be a similar situation here. This won’t be confirmed until next month, when Red Dead Redemption 2 appears on Steam on December 5. Fingers crossed the technical hitches have been ironed out for all players then.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
