Sony has officially revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro, a mid-gen console refresh for its current gaming console. Following a technical presentation by lead system architect Mark Cerney, the PS5 Pro release date, price, specs and more have all been announced.

At just 9 minutes long, Sony’s technical presentation revealed everything about the new PlayStation. Available to watch here on YouTube, the short video announcement shows off the PlayStation 5 Pro console in considerable detail.

Dubbed the “most powerful console” PlayStation has ever made, the new machine adds PSSR upscaling support, better ray-tracing, a better GPU and more.

PS5 Pro release date

Sony has set the PS5 Pro release date for November 7, 2024, coinciding with the holiday season. Just four years after the base PlayStation 5, Sony’s newest mid-gen refresh has taken a year longer to release compared to its last attempt.

The PS4 Pro release came just three years after the base system. That system included a major boost in specs, the introduction of checkboard rendering hardware and other improvements.

PS5 Pro specs confirmed

Alongside the reveal of the system’s release date, Sony confirmed long-rumoured specs for the new console. A massive improvement over the base system, the new PlayStation console comes with the following specs:

PlayStation 5 Pro price

With the original PS5 priced at $399.99 for the Digital Edition and $499.99 for the Standard Edition on launch, the advanced system has seen a price increase. In comparison, the PS5 Pro price has been revealed as $699.99/£699.99/€7.99.99.

PS5 Pro Design

Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro console design is very similar to the current PS5 Slim. Just as earlier design leaks revealed, the new PlayStation console is a large white tower with three black stripes on the side.

The new PlayStation comes without a disc drive. For players who wish to use a disc drive on their new console, they will have to purchase an external drive from Sony.
