Sony has announced a PlayStation Technical Presentation hosted by system architect Mark Cerney. While unconfirmed, the YouTube live stream will likely feature the reveal of the long-rumoured PS5 Pro console.
PS5 Pro reveal slated
A 9-minute video showcase, the livestream broadcast presentation is said to “focus on PS5 and innovations in gaming technology”. The last time Sony hosted a technical presentation was for the reveal of the base PS5 console.
As the lead architect of the PlayStation 5 family of consoles, Mark Cerney will likely explain the key improvements for Sony’s mid-gen refresh system. The console designer did the same back during the reveal of the PS4 Pro, detailing performance improvements and checkerboard rendering.
The alleged PS5 Pro reveal is scheduled for an official broadcast time of 8AM PDT / 11AM EDT / 4PM BST tomorrow on September 10, 2024. You’ll be able to watch the reveal right here on the PlayStation YouTube channel.
The PS5 Pro is expected to have a more powerful CPU, GPU, faster memory, better support for hardware-accelerated ray-tracing and native hardware to support image reconstruction. However, this is all just rumours until tomorrow’s presentation.
A long time coming
After around a year of leaks, the PlayStation 5 Pro reveal has been a long time coming for fans of Sony hardware. With alleged specs leaks, new controller leaks and even the design of the console leaking, the Pro has been one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.
Alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, even game developers have publicly discussed the new PS5 console. However, with a holiday season quickly approaching, Sony has likely set the marketing schedule to attract as many festive buyers as possible.
There is no current release date or price for the PS5 Pro console. However, considering its close reveal, we’d expect an October release date and a price upwards of $500.
