The PlayStation 5 Pro doesn’t come with a disc drive, forcing players with any physical media to buy Sony’s external drives to slap a disc in their machine. However, fans looking to nab a drive for their already-expensive console may have noticed the device is sold out everywhere, outside of eBay scalpers hungry for profit.

Scalpers scrape PS5 disc drives

With the PS5 Pro release date just a couple of days away, the PS5 disc drive is sold out everywhere. At the time of writing, every major retailer in America and Europe is out of stock for Sony’s external disc drive, leading gamers to turn towards scalpers selling the device at a massive markup.

At its best, the £99.99 peripheral is being sold for double its retail price. However, while some scalpers are selling the device for £199.99, some are selling the disc drive for over £300. After the massive scalping prices of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Bundle, scalpers are continuing to charge an arm and a leg for gaming products.

In the United Kingdom, even second-hand versions of the disc-drive are out of stock. Iconic high street second-hand shop CeX (Computer Exchange) has completely sold out of used versions of the PS5 addon.

With no knowledge of when new stock is coming for the disc drive accessory, PS5 Pro customers may be unable to use discs on their powerful new console for the foreseeable future. Even when new stock releases for the PS5 disc drive, it’ll also likely be targeted by scalpers as well. In order to make sure you’re first in line to nab a disc drive, set up a stock tracker notification.
