Nintendo has officially confirmed that the long-rumoured Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee are coming to the Switch later this year.

Both games are being aimed at newcomers to the long-running collect-'em-up franchise, and are clearly influenced by first-generation title Pokemon Yellow and the mobile juggernaut Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu/Eevee will take place in the Kanto area, which is where the original Pokemon games were set.

You'll be able to transfer all 151 Kanto-based Pokemon from Pokemon Go into the games, with players — depending on which version they buy — being followed by Pikachu or Eevee throughout their adventure, who remain outside their Poke Balls.

As mentioned, a lot of the core mechanics are influenced by Pokemon Go. To snag a Pokemon, it's simply a case of swinging the Joy-Con pad or the new Poke Ball Plus accessory in a swiping motion at the screen. Being a Switch game however, the visuals have received a significant overhaul.

Pokemon Let's Go! won't alienate long-time fans though, as there's plenty of familiar core elements thrown into the mix, including battling, trading, and exploration. Encounters also appear to utilise the same turn-based antics that fans should be pretty comfortable with by now.

Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee will launch for Switch on November 16.
