Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR2 may launch in early 2023, according to a tech industry analyst.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, said that he believes that Sony will start mass production on the headset later this year.

Kuo tweeted (via VGC) about the next-gen virtual reality hardware, saying:

“My latest supply chain check suggests that the assembler and several component providers of PS VR2 will start mass production with about 1.5M units shipments in [the second half of] 2022. Sony may launch it in Q1 23, depending on the development schedule of PS VR2 game titles.”

Sony revealed PS VR2 back in February, showing off the headset and the nifty new controllers. (They use haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, like the PlayStation 5 controller.)

Apparently the unit is going to launch with over twenty “major” games, which will be both first and third party. That is good news, but I still wonder if it will be enough to coax people over to V.R. The first PlayStation VR headset was a good piece of hardware. I relished the likes of Wolfenstein Cyberpilot and Blood & Truth. And it is heartening to see Sony renew the longevity of V.R. in general, giving many studios a new lease of life.

But will it be enough?
