The new Until Dawn remake on PS5 and PC has been largely criticised by fans for poor performance, new glitches and graphical changes that sometimes look worse than the original. To add fuel to the fire, it also seems that PlayStation is removing the original PS4 version of Until Dawn from sale in some countries, making the more expensive remake the only available version of the game.
Has Until Dawn 2015 been removed from sale?
Only available on PlayStation 4, the original Until Dawn has been on sale digitally since its launch 9 years ago. Players have noticed that the 2015 version of the game is now unavailable to purchase on the PlayStation Store.
At VideoGamer, we checked the UK version of the store on a web browser, PS5 console and the PlayStation Mobile app. While the game was available to purchase for £15.99 on console, the game was listed as “not available for purchase” on the browser version of the store and on the mobile app.
At the time of writing, the game is still available to purchase on the US version of the store, but other regions have also experienced issues. Following the recent price hike of Horizon Zero Dawn in the light of the upcoming remaster, and the removal of the original game from services such as the Epic Games Store, there is some worry that the same is happening to Until Dawn.
There is a possibility that this is a bug limited to the PlayStation Store. We’ve reached out to PlayStation for comment on this situation.
You still own the game
For players who have already purchased Until Dawn, the game is currently available to download from your PlayStation library on PS4 and PS5. Of course, anyone with a physical copy of the game will also be able to play the game.
With the state of the Until Dawn 2024 remake and its sweeping changes in style that fans are not enjoying, the prospect of the original game’s removal is terrifying. As we move towards a digital only future–with consoles such as PS5 Pro attempting to push discs away–the idea that games can just be removed without any form of physical backup is uncomfortable to say the least.
