PlaySation Plus’ ‘free’ game line-up each month is generally a mixed bag. While sometimes we get quality, like Resident Evil Remake and Transformers Devastation, other times we get Gauntlet, and usually there’s only a single stand-out release. November’s line-up is one of the best I’ve seen in a while, especially if you still game on your PS3.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is quite rightly the game people seem most excited about. When we reviewed it in August last year, it earned an 8/10 and such praise as “beautiful and intriguing”. Personally I found the whole thing to be a bit of a slog, the pace so pedestrian all the other walking sims started honking their virtual horns due to getting caught up in the tailback. It does indeed look lovely though, and most people liked it a lot more than I did.

In truth I’m more interested in playing The Deadly Tower of Monsters, an action game set in a 1970s sci-fi B-movie. Reviews were mostly OK to decent, but sometimes that’s all you need when the premise sounds cool.

Sadly there’s no way to play PS3 games on PS4 or else the following two games would be essential plays for everyone. DiRT 3 is a brilliant arcade-skewed rally game, and the last excellent fun racer Codemasters made. DIRT Rally is great, but the less demanding thrill of the core DiRT series is more my taste. Costume Quest 2 is ideal if you don’t want halloween to end, offering a twee RPG experience that even turn-based combat haters should be able to enjoy. I did!

Pumped BMX+ and Letter Quest Remastered are the PS Vita entries for the month, although the former will also work on PS3 and PS4 and the latter on PS4. Neither is hugely exciting, although Letter Quest is a decent way to pass time if you’re commuting and fancy a word-building RPG instead of The Metro.

All six new PlayStation Plus titles will be available to download from November 1st.
