The Defense Matrix Initiative is in place to try and prevent as much disruption as possible to the popular free-to-play shooter. All the security measures that come with it are intended to help make a more pleasant experience for gamers everywhere, and on February 1st we got a better idea of what’s coming next as part of the initiative.

One of the biggest things introduced is protection for streamers, as well as disruptive voice chat detection. Here is everything being introduced  as part of the Defense Matrix Initiative:

They have already begun to roll out a technology that will pick up on any abusive and disruptive language in, in game chat. However, as stated in their recent blog post if you find anyone being abusive you can always report them in game. 

Overwatch 2 Season 3 Defense Matrix: Custom Game Moderation

As stated in the title, this is simply keeping an eye on Custom Games to make sure they don’t contain any inappropriate titles or content. Once again, these can also be reported in game.

Overwatch 2 Season 3 Defense Matrix: Streamer Protection 

Season 3 will also see new measures introduced to try and prevent stream sniping. Players will now be able to hide their battle tag, or hide the tags of other players in their game.

This will help prevent them from being recognised in game, going forward players will also be able to hide, and randomise, their current queue time. 

These measures are set to be introduced in Season 3, to try and help streamers.
