Overwatch 2 Season 1 Battle Pass – release date, theme, new heroes and more

The Overwatch 2 Season 1 Battle Pass will arrive with the game launch on October 4. The theme for this first season is taking a cyberpunk theme.

There’ll be both a free and Premium track on the Battle Pass, which you’ll level up simply by playing the game. There’ll be 80+ total tiers across the entire season, with the free track making up 20 of these.

Overwatch 2 Season 1 Battle Pass – Free Battle Pass

Among the free rewards will be that Season’s hero. So for Season 1 – that’s Kiriko. She’ll be unlocked once you reach Tier 55, providing you’ve not already unlocked her through the Founder’s Pack for those who owned the previous game.

The season’s other new heroes – Junker Queen and Sojourn – will be unlocked immediately, regardless of if you own the Premium Battle Pass or not.

Other rewards included in the Free Battle Pass track include:

  • 2 Epic Skins
  • 1 Weapon Charm
  • 2 Souvenirs
  • 1 Highlight Intro
  • 14 Additional items (Emotes, victory poses, name cards, sprays, player icons etc.)
  • Prestige Tier Titles (8 earnable titles available after completing all levels of the Battle pass)

Overwatch 2 Season 1 Battle Pass – Premium Battle Pass

Those willing to fork out a little more each season will be able to grab the Premium Battle Pass. This will unlock an additional 60+ rewards, including Kiriko right away without having to grind her unlock via the pass.

Blizzard say this trend will continue for all future seasons, should they contain a hero. So they’ll be free to everyone who gets to level 55, or instant access via the Premium Battle Pass.

The Premium Battle Pass will also include, as well as the free rewards above:

  • 20% XP Battle Pass Boost
  • 1 Mythic Skin
  • 5 Legendary Skins and 1 Epic Skin
  • 3 Play of the Game Intros
  • 4 Weapon Charms
  • 3 Emotes
  • 3 Souvenirs
  • 6 Poses
  • 6 Name Cards
  • 30+ Additional cosmetic rewards

Overwatch 2 Season 1 Battle Pass – how much does the Premium pass cost?

The Overwatch 2 Season 1 Battle Pass will cost you 1000 Overwatch Coins. That’s about $10 USD in real money. Alternatively, you can also earn coins by completing weekly challenges.

As is the case with many battle passes, there’ll also be an option to buy the Premium Battle Pass with 20 bonus tiers for 2200 Overwatch Coins.

Overwatch 2 – Season 2 Battle Pass

We already know some details of the Season 2 Battle Pass. As previously alluded to, not every season will include a hero. The team has said they intend to alternate each season between a new hero, and a new map.

However, they’ll buck this trend for the first couple of seasons – including Season 2. That’ll include a new map AND a new hero – which so far has been revealed to be a Tank hero. More information on them will come closer to release.

That release, by the way – will be December 6. The team say they’ll drop a new season every nine weeks – and the second season will also include 30+ new skins, a new battle pass and a new Mythic Skin.

Further down the line, seasons in 2023 will include more new heroes, more new skins – and even new game modes – including Overwatch 2’s series debut of proper story-based PvE.
