After showing the newest trailer for OD, Hideo Kojima discussed his ambitions to “scan a ghost for the first time” after bringing and recording a female spirit in studio. OD is Kojima’s highly anticipated foray into horror after the cancelled Silent Hills, and it is a collaboration with several prolific creators and directors such as Jordan Peele. P.T. already showed how scary a Hideo Kojima horror experience could be, but the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator wants to go even further by scanning an actual ghost.
Hideo Kojima wants to “scan a ghost” for OD
Hideo Kojima recently treated us to a teaser trailer for a chapter of OD called Knock. This is a chapter that will be directed by Kojima while later chapters will be orchestrated by other maestros such as Jordan Peele.
The trailer looks absolutely incredible, showing unbelievably immersive photo-realistic first-person gameplay that is sure to deliver unforgettable frights similar to P.T. After showing the trailer, Kojima briefly discussed some of his ambitions for the horror project.
As relayed by Gamesradar, Kojima said via a translator that the environment depicted in the trailer was a fully scanned “real-life area”. While scanning areas and actors makes sense, Kojima wants to go even further by scanning the paranormal.
The Metal Gear Solid creator said, “For OD, I want to go around, all over the world where [there] are scary kind of places… I want to scan a ghost for the first time and I want to get an award for that”.
While he is yet to scan a ghost, Kojima said “there should be a ghost” in the room that the studio scanned. Kojima alluded to “this cracking sound,” claiming “That’s actually a sound that was recorded in our studio”.
Kojima Productions’ studio experienced some “queeks,” and Kojima said, “Maybe the ghost was there, but she’s no longer there anymore”. Aware of the dangers involved in messing with the paranormal, Kojima ended by saying that Kojima Productions “went to the shrine together with Microsoft to make sure that we have a safe build of the game.”
Whatever your thoughts surrounding the legitimacy of paranormal activity, OD looks fantastic and will be one of the greatest horror games ever if it’s as good as P.T. The Silent Hills demo was only a playable slice teasing what Kojima is capable of in the realm of horror, and it remains one of the most disturbing and unforgettable horror gaming experiences of all time.
