Update 2: Konami has issued a statement to Kotaku confirming the cancellation of Silent Hills.

“Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

“In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.”

Update: Konami has issued a statement to target=”_blank”>GameSpot, confirming that Norman Reedus is no longer working on the project, but Silent Hills is still in development:

“Our contract period with Norman Reedus has expired,” the statement reads, “we will continue to develop the Silent Hill series.”

Original report: Silent Hills has reportedly been cancelled while its teaser demo P.T. is to be removed from the PlayStation Store this week.

Silent Hills was due to be developed by Hideo Kojima, who is believed to have been in a prolonged dispute with the publisher for some time, leading to public disputes involving the beloved Metal Gear Solid series. Heralded movie director Guillermo Del Toro was also involved with the project, and confirmed the game’s cancellation over the weekend at a convention in San Francisco. “It’s not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart,” he said. Norman Reedus, the Walking Dead star whom appeared in P.T. also confirmed the news via Twitter:

P.T.’s official site also confirms it will be removed from the PSN this Wednesday. It’s a sad turn of events for the highly-anticipated game, and another bizarre twist in the Kojima/Konami saga. There’s no doubt we haven’t seen or heard the last of it, it’s just a shame that potentially interesting projects are being sacrificed along the way in this messy affair.
