Confirming yesterday’s reports, Warner Bros Interactive has now formally announced that a Harry Potter AR game is in development from mobile developers Niantic Labs and also revealed a few more details about the upcoming title.

The announcement on the Pottermore website promises Harry Potter: Wizards Unite ‘encourages you to step outside with your phone, explore your local surroundings and take part in a series of adventures, such as searching for magical creatures and bumping into iconic wizarding world characters along the way.’

Players will also be able to learn and cast spells, chase down magical creatures and discover artefacts and we’re even promised you’ll be able to bump into several iconic characters from the Potter-verse.

To go along with the announcement, Warner Bros. also formally revealed their new Harry Potter-specific label Portkey Games. In another statement, WB says that Portkey Games will be working with other developers to potentially bring new console & mobile games based in the HP universe, adding the exciting tease that other titles ‘could feature familiar characters ‘at different points in their lives’ from the Harry Potter stories.’

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite doesn’t have a set release date yet, with more news coming in 2018 but intrigued fans are encouraged to sign up for more information on the official website.
