Ahead of the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct, Video Games Chronicle owner and editor-in-chief Andy Robinson claims that the new Fable will launch day one on PS5, unlike Forza Horizon 6, which he says, “wasn’t ready.”
Both Fable and Forza Horizon 6 are being developed by Playground Games, the creators of the Forza Horizon series. This is Playground Games’ first Fable, taking over from the developer of the original trilogy, Lionhead Studios.
Speaking during VGC’s 2026 Gaming Predictions, Robinson said the new Fable is “coming to PlayStation 5,” adding, “I’d expect it to be day and date because I know they’ve [Playground Games] been targeting PS5 for a while”.
As for Forza Horizon 6 on PS5, Robinson admits he doesn’t “know the full story,” but says he has been told the game “wasn’t ready”. He acknowledges that he doesn’t “know how true that is,” but if accurate, he believes Playground Games will “do their best” to bring the game to PS5 as soon as possible.
The new Fable was first announced in 2020 and serves as a new beginning for the franchise, featuring a new hero and a new quest set in the series’ world of Albion. The mainline RPG trilogy concluded with Fable 3 in 2010, while the series’ most recent release was the spin-off card game Fable Fortune in 2018.
Meanwhile, reliable leaker NateTheHate claims Forza Horizon 6 is targeting a release in the first half of 2026. The open-world racing series made its PlayStation debut with Forza Horizon 5, and Forza Horizon 5 went on to become one of the best-selling PS5 games of 2025.
Fable and Forza Horizon 6 confirmed for Xbox Developer Direct
Both Fable and Forza Horizon 6 are confirmed to appear at the Xbox Developer Direct on January 22. The showcase begins at 10AM PST / 1PM EDT / 6PM GMT and will be streamed live on the official Xbox YouTube channel.
The Xbox Developer Direct focuses on extended gameplay reveals and developer commentary. Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct announcement emphasizes Fable as “one of 2026’s most anticipated titles,” while also promising a “first look at some stunning new gameplay”.
For Forza Horizon 6, Playground Games will deliver a deep dive showcasing the new open world, which will take players to the “beautiful and contrasting landscapes of Japan”.
Xbox console exclusives began arriving on PS5 in 2024 with titles such as Sea of Thieves. Since then, PlayStation players have gained access to several Xbox IPs, including Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War Reloaded, while Sony has brought Helldivers 2 to Xbox Series X/S.
Beyond rumors surrounding Fable and Forza Horizon 6, more Xbox games are heading to PS5. Halo Campaign Evolved is confirmed to launch day one on PS5 in 2026 alongside Xbox and PC, while leaks suggest Bethesda’s Starfield could finally arrive on PS5 later this year.
