This cryptic teaser of two hearts plus a diamond has set the Doctor Who online community ablaze with excitement and anticipation as fans wonder just who the next companion will be.

As the two hearts would appear to be in reference to The Doctor with their Galifreyan biology famously including two hearts. But, who could the diamond be in reference to?

Some fans have speculated that as the next companion is confirmed to be starring alongside Ncuti Gatwa as The 15th Doctor that it may be his ‘Sex Education‘ castmate, Mimi Keene, with their reasoning that another name for a red diamond is a “Ruby”, which was the name of Keene’s character in ‘Sex Education’.

However, Keene is not the only casting theory that is proving popular among fans, as several have posted that they believe the next companion could in fact be a Derry Girl.

Specifically, either Nicola Coughlan who starred in the hit comedy series as Claire Devlin and went on to greater stardom as Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s period hit, ‘Bridgerton‘. Or, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who starred as ‘Derry Girls’ protagonist, Erin Quinn, and who will next be seen starring for Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in their big budget ‘The Flash’ movie starring Ezra Miller.

Another popular suggestion among fans for The Doctor’s next companion is Kit Connor who will be familiar to fans of the Netflix hit ‘Heartstopper‘ as Nick Nelson, and whose voice will be familiar to fans of the BBC’s ‘His Dark Materials’, as Connor provides the voice of Pan, Lyra’s Dæmon companion.

While nothing else has been revealed yet or teased yet about who the next companion. We do know that the new companion is set to be revealed at some point between 8pm and 9pm GMT/3pm to 4pm EST/12pm to 1pm PST today.
